Scandal, else, anyone, humiliated, painfully, Vatican's




Question by cathy phy: Is anyone else painfully humiliated by the Vatican's sex scandal?

I heard on NPR today that the Pope may end up arrested for knowing about sex scandals in Germany and not reporting them.

As a rather liberal Catholic, I've dissented on some RC stances before, but this is just shameful.

I'm infuriated. I can't even bring myself to admit I'm Catholic. Like you, I've dissented on some RC stances and I'm sure people on here wouldn't consider me a real Catholic. What makes me angrier than anything is that there are still lay Catholics who are willing to defend these guys to the death. They believe everything is a conspiracy. I never knew just how many Catholics had their heads firmly planted in the sand.

Btw, I'm so relieved to see this question- to know that are others out there who feel as I do and are willing to say it on here. Thank you for posting this.

@Marysia: How old are you? You're either no older than 14 or completely delusional. His superiors knew about the allegations well before the 90s. Don't try and spin it like no one knew anything until 40 years later. The Vatican decided against the trial 40 years later b/c of his ailing health- but his superiors knew about the accusations against him well before that- and they STILL let him work with children.

BTW- the police couldn't do anything b/c the statute of limitations had passed. The same thing happened where I live. A Grand Jury felt there was enough evidence, against an accused priest, to go further but they couldn't proceed b/c the statute of limitations had passed.

Do you know about the 2001 letter that the then Cardinal Ratzinger penned? The one in which bishops were ordered to NOT inform the police about such cases (pontifical secrecy) under threat of excommunication? Open your eyes.
